MicroRNAs are a mechanism used by pathogens to overcome plant defenses. Evidence suggest that beneficial microbes may likewise do the same to facilitate symbiosis. Here they show that beneficial fungus Pisolithus microcarpus uses a miRNA that enters plant cells to stabilize the symbiotic interaction
