Kleptoplasty is when sea slugs sequester chloroplasts from algal food in their intestinal cells and photosynthesize for months. This work found no evidence of horizontal gene transfer of photosynthetic genes in the sea slug, but found modified gene expression in chloroplast-enriched tissue.
