Observation
Ectomycorrhiza is a symbiotic relationship between fungi and plant roots. The authors show in this paper that ectomycorrhizal fungi mediate belowground carbon transfer between pines and oaks. The carbon transfered to the fungi, also went into neighboring trees of similar and distinct phylogenies.
