Pseudomonas aeruginosa (-) Disease (+) Homo sapiens

This paper proposes that the development of antibiotic tolerance predisposes bacteria for the acquisition of resistance at early stages of infection and that both mechanisms independently promote bacterial survival during antibiotic treatment at later stages of chronic infections.
