The Bacterial Symbionts of the Giant Tube Worms Are Varied In Shape and Function R. pachyptila has a sym­biotic relation­ship with a number of differ­ent auto­trophic bacteria. One of the best studied is a gamma­proteo­bacterium called Candidatus Endoriftia persephone.
